Add A Place

Untappd doesn't create places. If a bar, store, or home isn't here, add it on Foursquare first, then search for it in the app.

Add the place on Foursquare

  1. Create a Foursquare account if you don't have one.
  2. Add the place on the web at foursquare.com/placemakers/add-place.
  3. Check in to that location on Foursquare.

Then find it on Untappd. Use Home and private places or Public and retail places below, based on the type.

Find it on Untappd

A new place won't show up anywhere on Untappd, including Search > Place, until someone has checked in there at least once. Before that, the only way to find it is the location search on a check-in.

  1. Start a check-in with the yellow Check-in button (the round + at the bottom right of Discover and Community), then pick your drink.

  1. Tap Where are you drinking?
  2. Type the name in Search for a place.

You can also look it up later from the Search tab at the bottom of the screen, then Place.

Home and private places

Private places (including anything listed as private or Home) aren't searchable unless you connect your Foursquare account and one of these is true:

  • You created the place on Foursquare.
  • You're friends with the creator on Swarm.
  • You're friends with someone who checked in there on Swarm.
  • You've checked in there on Swarm before.

Connect Foursquare in Settings (the gear icon at the top right of Discover, or on your profile) > Connections.

Then search for it under Where are you drinking? on a check-in.

If it still doesn't show after 24 hours, confirm you added it on Foursquare, connected Foursquare in Connections, and searched in the check-in location search. If those are all true, Untappd may not be able to add it because of privacy.

Public and retail places

After you create the place on Foursquare, search for it under Where are you drinking? on a check-in. After you check in there, Untappd creates the place page, and it can show up under Search > Place. It can take about 24 hours to come over from Foursquare.

If it still isn't in the check-in location search after 24 hours, open a ticket and include:

  1. The Foursquare URL for the place.
  2. Confirmation that you checked in on Foursquare.
  3. A screenshot of the check-in location search with the place missing.

Good to know

  • All Place data comes from Foursquare.
  • On Untappd, linking Foursquare lives in settings under Connections (not Social Accounts).
  • Home and private places only show in the check-in location search, not in the Search tab.
