Untappd places come from Foursquare. Private places (including ones listed as private or Home - Private) are not searchable unless your Foursquare/Swarm account is connected to Untappd and at least one of the Foursquare visibility rules below is true. Connect under Settings > Connections, or on the web at untappd.com/account.
Why search can't find it
If you used to check in at a personal or private place and search no longer finds it, Foursquare's private-place rules are usually the reason. Connecting Foursquare is required, and you also need one of these:
- You created the place on Foursquare.
- You are friends with the creator on Foursquare/Swarm.
- You are friends with someone who checked in there on Foursquare/Swarm.
- You checked in there before on Foursquare/Swarm.
Connect Foursquare in the app
- Open Settings (the gear icon at the top right of Discover, or on your profile; not on Community).
- Tap Connections.
- Next to Foursquare, tap Connect and finish authorization.
Connect on the web
- Sign in and open untappd.com/account.
- Connect Foursquare/Swarm there.
Try the place again
- Start a check-in (yellow Check-in button, the round + at the bottom right of Discover and Community, or Check-in on a drink page).
- Tap “Where are you drinking?” and search for your private place in “Search for a place”.
You'll see the place when Foursquare connection and one of the four rules above are met.
Good to know
- Connections replaced Social Accounts. Foursquare is the only connection type here.
- Public places stay searchable without Foursquare. This article is about private / Home places.
- Unless you're an Insider, place search only looks near your current location. If you're far from your private place, it may not show up.
Don't see it?
- Don't see Connections? Open Settings from Discover or your profile.
- Seeing "Your Foursquare is not connected"? Your Foursquare connection has expired. Reconnect it under Settings > Connections.
- Still can't find the place after connecting? Confirm one of the four Foursquare rules, and that you connected the same Foursquare/Swarm account that knows that place.
