Every account is public by default, so anyone can view your profile, including your name. Edit your name in Edit Profile. Privacy controls live in Settings (the gear icon at the top right of Discover, or on your profile) > Privacy & Visibility.
Make your account private
- Open Settings.
- Tap Privacy & Visibility.
- Turn on Make Account Private.
If you still want to show up when people search for you, leave Enable Public Search on. Turn it off to stay out of public search results.
What changes when you're private
- Your friends still see your check-ins in the Community tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Your check-ins do not appear on public feeds.
- Only friends can see your places, drinks, badges, and the rest of your profile.
- Your check-ins and photos come off public drink, producer, and place pages.
- You won't appear in Top Drinkers on those pages.
- Enable Public Toasts (toasting a check-in is similar to liking a post on other platforms) is hidden while the account is private.
- Private accounts can't share check-ins (Share Link, Share Photo, or Instagram Stories). Make the account public to share.
Public interaction
On Privacy & Visibility, the Public Interaction group has:
- Enable Public Toasts (hidden while the account is private)
- Allow producers to comment on my check-ins to their drinks
Turn the producer-comment toggle off if you don't want producer (the brewery, winery, or distillery) comments on your check-ins.
Blocked and muted users
Blocked Users and Muted Users are also on Privacy & Visibility, with counts. Open either list to review dates (and mute expiry). Learn more in the Block[Block a User] or Mute article [Mute Friends Check-Ins].
What Untappd uses
- Profile photo - On signup, Untappd may use Gravatar from your email for a default photo. Set or replace it in Edit Profile. See Add a Profile Picture or Cover Photo.
- Location - Untappd uses your location while you're in the app for nearby drinks, places, and check-in location search. It doesn't track you in the background.
- Photos - Untappd only uses Camera or library access when you add a photo to a check-in or your profile.
- Calendar - Untappd can add an event to your calendar. It doesn't read your calendar.
The full policy is at untappd.com/privacy.
Export your data
If you want an export of your Untappd data, log into your account and visit this page to request data export. You'll get up to three emails, depending on what data your account has:
- Check-ins
- Custom lists
- Wish List
The files are CSV. Download links stay active for up to 7 days. You can request again any time.
Good to know
- Making the account public again does not put old check-ins and photos back on public pages. New check-ins can appear there.
- You won't appear on Untappd for Business digital boards while the account is private.
- Private accounts can't share check-ins (Share Link, Share Photo, or Instagram Stories). Make the account public to share.
- A default profile photo may come from Gravatar based on your email until you upload your own in Edit Profile.
Don't see it?
Don't see Privacy & Visibility? Open Settings from the gear on Discover or on your profile (not Community). The row is under Account but it's hidden if you're using Untappd without an account.
