A check-in is how you log and rate a drink. Start one with the yellow Check-in button (the round + at the bottom right of Discover and Community tabs). It's also on every drink, producer (the brewery, winery, or distillery), or place page, so any route to a drink page works too. To find a drink first, use the Search tab at the bottom of the screen.
Use the yellow Check-in button
- Tap the yellow Check-in button.
- On the Check-in screen, type your drink in the search field, or pick one from Nearby Drinks.
- Tap the drink in the results.
- The check-in screen opens.
Search for the drink
- Open the Search tab.
- Type the drink name.
- Tap the drink in the results (the Drink tab).
- Tap Check-in at the bottom right of the drink page.
Check in from a place's menu
- Open the page of a Verified Place (a bar or store that manages its menu on Untappd).
- Tap Check-in.
- In the Drink Search sheet, choose your drink under On Menu, or look under Recent Activity.
The place is filled in on your check-in.
Check in from search results, a list, or the feed
- Tap the three dots on a drink in search results or in a list, or on a check-in in the feed.
- Tap Check-in.
The check-in screen opens with that drink filled in. This replaces the Quick Check-In shortcut from earlier versions.
Scan a barcode or QR code
- Open the Search tab.
- Tap the scan icon at the right end of the search field.
- Point your camera at the code.
The drink page opens with a banner that asks Is this the drink you just scanned? If the barcode isn't matched yet, you're asked to search for the drink so the barcode is saved to that drink for next time.
Finish your check-in
- Add anything you like. The check-in screen asks Where are you drinking?, Who are you with?, What serving style is it?, and What flavors do you taste?, and you can add a photo, a note, and a rating (a slider that shows Unrated until you set it). Tapping How was it? Leave a note opens a note editor. Tap Check-In when you're done. All of it is optional.
- Tap Check-in.
Your check-in appears at the top of the Community tab, with any badges you earned. Friends see it in their Community tab under Friends.
On the mobile web
To check in on the mobile web, expand the left side panel and search for the drink. On the drink page, start your check-in by tapping the "Check" button.
On the desktop web
To check in on the desktop web, search for the drink. On the drink page, start your check-in by clicking the green "Check" button.
Good to know
Set purchase location is for stores and bottle shops where you buy a drink to take elsewhere. You don't need it when you're drinking where you bought the drink. You must be within 60 mi (96 km) of a place to add it. With location on, check-ins are geotagged, so you can add the place to a check-in later, or remove it.
On a drink with vintages, tap a year under the drink name to check in to that vintage.
To hide ratings in search results, turn on Hide Drink Ratings under Settings (the gear icon at the top right of Discover, or on your profile) > Advanced / Reset.
If your account is private, your friends still see your check-ins. Private check-ins don't appear on public feeds.
Insiders (a paid Untappd subscription) can change the check-in date and save unfinished check-ins under Saved Check-ins.
Don't see it?
Don't see the yellow Check-in button on Discover or Community? Turn on Show Floating Check-in Button under Settings > Advanced / Reset. The yellow Check-in button always shows on a drink, producer, or place page.
