I can't add a photo to my check-in on Android

If you can't add a photo while checking in on Android, start with Untappd's Camera settings and your phone's permissions. Open Settings (the gear icon at the top right of Discover, or on your profile) > Camera.

Allow camera and photos for Untappd

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Camera (under App Settings).
  3. Tap Open device settings.
  4. In your phone's Untappd app settings, allow Camera. On Android 12 or older, also allow Photos or Storage. Android 13 and newer don't need a photo permission.
  5. Return to Untappd. Start a check-in with the yellow Check-in button (the round + at the bottom right of Discover and Community), or tap Check-in on a drink or place.
  6. Tap the photo box next to How was it? Leave a note, then choose Camera or Photo Gallery.

You'll see the photo on the check-in screen before you confirm.

If you said no to a permission before, Untappd shows a message with a Settings button. Tap it to allow access, then try again.

Try the Camera toggles

On Settings > Camera:

  • If the photo never attaches, turn Use photo cropper off, then try again.
  • Turn Save photos to your device on if you want Untappd to keep a copy in your gallery after you take one in-app.

If the app closes or the photo never attaches

Work through these in order:

  1. After you tap Photo Gallery, pick your phone's built-in Gallery or Photos app, not a third-party app.
  2. Lower camera resolution in your phone's Camera app, then try again.
  3. Free memory and reboot. Close heavy apps, restart the phone, then open Untappd only.
  4. Uninstall Untappd, reinstall it from the Play Store, log in, and try a photo again.

Good to know

  • Photo is optional on every check-in. You can confirm without one.
  • Camera settings are hidden if you're using Untappd without an account. Sign up first.
  • Check-in photos are separate from your profile photo and cover photo.
  • There is no Enhanced Camera option in 5.0.
  • While the camera is open, you may see a Camera "Please wait" notification. That's normal. Don't swipe it away or force-close Untappd.

Don't see it?

  • Don't see Camera in Settings? Open the gear on Discover or on your profile (not on Community), and make sure you have an account.
  • Don't see the photo box on the check-in screen? Tap Save on your note, or tap outside the note, and it will come back.
