Retroactive badges let past check-ins count when you earn a new core badge level. Turn the setting on in Settings (the gear icon at the top right of Discover, or on your profile) > Preferences > Earn Core Badges Retroactively (off by default). Badge screens in the app also link here (untp.beer/retroBadgeFAQ).
Enable retroactive badges
- Open Settings.
- Tap Preferences.
- Under Retroactive Core Badges, turn on Earn Core Badges Retroactively.
- The setting stays on until you turn it off. Check in to a qualifying drink after you enable it. Untappd then sets the badge level from your full drink history.
How it works
Example: a new core badge ships and your next check-in earns Level 1, but you've had plenty of that drink type before. With the setting on, that same qualifying check-in can jump you to a higher level based on your whole history.
Retroactive badges cover core badges that aren't time-sensitive. They don't apply to Local Badges, time-sensitive badges, or a small number of other excluded badges. This is separate from how badge levels work day to day.
Good to know
- You must check in after enabling the setting. Turning it on alone does not re-award badges.
- You can turn Earn Core Badges Retroactively off anytime. Badges you already earned stay on your profile.
- If you earned a badge with this setting on, that badge's page shows Earned with retroactive badges.
- While the setting is on, your badges list shows Retroactive Badges Enabled.
Don't see it?
Don't see Earn Core Badges Retroactively? Open Settings from the gear on Discover or on your profile, then Preferences. The row is hidden if you're using Untappd without an account.
