Devices/Equipment
Q: Is there any brand of TV or size of TV that we recommend for digital boards?
A: No. Digital board content autosizes; as long as the TV respects the 16:9/9:16 aspect ratio (HD screen size), the content will adjust appropriately. The model and size of TV used are totally at your own discretion.
Q: Do I need a certain model of TV or a certain feature on their TV to be able to display digital boards vertically?
A: No. All of the orientation options are within the Digital Menus app itself.
Q: Can I use a Roku/Google TV/etc. to display my digital board?
A: No.
Q: Do we still support Chromebits?
A: No, we do not still support surviving Chromebits, although the majority are likely malfunctioning at this point due to lack of updates and should be replaced with one of our currently supported devices.
Q: Can I use a Smart TV browser to display a digital board?
A: No. You will need to use one of our currently supported devices.
Display Features/Customization
Q: Can I use my custom font on their digital board?
A: MAYBE. If you have UTFB Premium you can upload a font in the menu builder at the foot of the Fonts section.
Q: Can the font size on digital boards be adjusted?
A: Yes. Go to the font size controls in the builder.
Q: Can beer labels/FWC images be enlarged?
A: They are able to be resized using CSS, which is available to Premium tier subscribers.
Q: Can we increase the time each page of the menu shows beyond what is listed in the rotation interval dropdown?
A: No, this isn’t adjustable at all.
Q: Can beer menus and Food/Wine/Cocktail/etc. menus show up on the same screen?
A: Yes, you should simply uncheck the "Start Menus on New Page" box in the digital menu customizer.
Q: Can the NEW tag for items in my menu be extended beyond the two-hour time limit?
A: No, there is no control for that setting.
Q: Can the NEW tag be removed from in front of items on the digital board?
A: Yes, there is a setting in the board that turns it off.
Q: Can digital boards be set up to show Happy Hour/special pricing at certain times of the day?
A: No.
Q: Can digital boards display vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free, etc. tags on items?
A. It isn't a feature built into our digital menu customizer, but, the beer name can be edited in the menu builder to include emojis as in the example below:
You can also use (Vegan) or (GF) or some other designation in the item’s name.
Q: The structure options I’m trying to use are grayed out. Why?
A: If you see a structure selection grayed out it is because the configuration you want is not supported by the digital board builder. The availability of features such as selecting the number of columns and container organization depends on the layout selected. Compressed and Table layouts greatly restrict the available customization options.
Check-In Bar Functions
Q: How often do live check-ins update on digital boards?
A: The check in feed should update instantly upon a user's check-in to the location.
Q: Can the check-in bar scroll like a news ticker?
A: No. The board will rotate between check ins, events, and announcements roughly every 60-90 seconds.
Q: Can “Purchased At” check-ins show up on digital boards?
A: No, they cannot.
Ad Slides
Q: What file types are accepted for Ad Slides?
A: ONLY .png, gif, and .jpg files are accepted by the digital menu builder. No other file types including .pdf are able to be used.
Q: Can I show videos/gifs on my board?
A: Yes, under 5MB in size.
Q: Can an Ad Slide be displayed in between each page of the menu?
A: No, Ad Slides can only be shown at the end of a menu's run or the menu can run, show slide #1, run, slide #2, etc.
Q: What size should an Ad Slide be?
A: Our boards use a 16:9 aspect ratio (or 9:16 for portrait orientation). At minimum, Ad Slides should be 1080 x 1920 pixels (1920 x 1080 pixels portrait) in actual image size.
Q: What is the maximum file size for Ad Slides?
A: Max file size should be no greater than 5MB.
Q: Is there a limit to how many Ad Slides I can have?
A: While there technically is not a limit as to how many slides you can have, the file format, file size, and number of slides will all affect how smoothly and quickly a digital board runs. The more slides a board has, the more likely it is to move slowly, glitch, or even cease functioning. As a best practice we advise that no more than ten Ad Slides should be added to a board; if more are added this may impact your board's performance.
