Beers From Last Night and badges

So I had a bunch of beers last night, but due to lack of wireless and extremely expencive roaming plans between countries in Europe, I ended up not registering them all while I was out - I just noted them down, and registered them this morning. Problem though, I just registered 7 beers I had last night, and now I earned a friggin "Top of the Mornin" badge - yeah, that really looks good, posted on Facebook and all! :)

So, can I remove badges I've not rightfully earned?

How about an option to correct the time stamps (and for that matter, location) for check-ins, or at least a BFLN ticker to indicate that this check-in should not count for this kind of short-time/fast-drinking type of badge?

    fb,

I understand your pain - and I can happily remove the badge. If you can provide me the Badge URL - I can remove it. However, bear in the mind that next time you enter a beer before 12pm - you'll get the badge again and it will post to your Social networks if you choose.

As Untappd is a realtime service - we probably won't have a feature to record "beers from last night" or change the timestamps as that would open up a world of cheating and incorrect representation of when and where beers are consumed.

I hope this makes sense to you - but if not - I'd be open to suggestion. Basically - I know that most people want to "log" what beer that they had to, but Untappd's goal is allow users to enter in beers in real-time and not after the fact. While we like that people are doing that - you may earn badges that you didn't actually earn. See this page for more details: http://help.untappd.com/kb/check-in-etiquette/are-there-any-rules-r...

    Thanks again or your support!

    Woa, fast response...

Aha, no big deal, just curious what my boss thinks as I was at a conference while doing this, maybe he thinks I‘m out drinking instead! Kidding ;)

I honoustly don‘t grasp the “cheating“ argument, didn‘t know this was a contest? Nothing prevents anyone from cheating anyhow, but as it is now, we cannot correct our entries, and hence automatically “cheat“ when we enter our last night beers.

Yes, I know what you aim at, but I‘m alreay earning badges I don‘t deserve since I cannot correct my entries. So I nah, doesn‘t really make sense to me. OTOH, if there was an app that works offline, where one could registet in real-time, and then sync to site when going online...?

Cheers, I‘m currently in what claims to be the only, or at least first American beer pub in Europe, and here we‘ve got free wifi at least. Gonna hit number 100 uniq beer tonight, for sure :)

    e,

Look at it from this perspective - Untappd allows you to check in the beer that you are currently drinking right now. It's real-time, fast action fun. There is a similar service out there for venues, foursquare. You wouldn't wake up the next day and try to check into your venues from last night? We know that beer is a little different.

Like we have said in our FAQ documents - we don't care what you do, it's your account so do you as you please, but bear in mind that you will earn badges for just catching up in the AM. There really isn't anything we can do to prevent it.

The only badge that causes an issue is the Top of the Morning badge. I'd say if you need to end "BFLN" (beers from last night) - why not enter them after 12pm local time so you don't get the badge?

Cheating is a major issue if we allow users change the timestamp of the checkin. Although it may sound stupid - there are people that just care about getting badge, so they would just change their timestamp for every beers, get all the badges and make it not fun for anyone.

All in all - now that you have the badge - you shouldn't run in any other issues when entering beers from last night. We just hope you realize why we do it, as its not us trying to stifle our users, at all. We just need have some control over the platform. It's the same reason why you can't edit tweets, just delete them and try again :-)

Cheers, and thanks again for you checkins! Happy 100th uniq!

    Thanks,
    Greg

I'm not following the rationale behind blocking others from earning badges by cheating. I only care about badges I've earned and badges my friends have earned. If it looks like someone is cheating, as is possible in almost any other online game (and is definitely possible here too), I'll just tune them out.

Badges mean nothing in real life; they only matter as a game between friends. I am one of the minority of users that uses an ipod touch, not an iphone, to check in to brews. Often I can grab a public wifi, but not always.

My suggestion is this; quit blocking cheaters. The way they ruin things for everyone is by causing governing bodies to create more rules. That frustrates the everyday user who would otherwise have no contact with cheaters. I don't care what they do, but I do resent the rules intended to block them. There's always a new way to cheat.

I just kinda read through the line. Thinking it would be for. A badge based off something like text from last night. However, if I may I think he is trying to get at a box to check that will say the beer was from last night and invalidate it from earning any badges? With I think would be a nice addition although no necessary.

    All,

I think you are refering to the fact of cheaters for changing the timestamps. We aim to be a real-time service - which is why don't have the ability to "change the timestamps".

We might in the future - but Untappd aims to track your beers in realtime, like foursquare tracks venues, twitter tracks tweets and facebook tracks status updates.

    Thanks,
    Greg
